Accomodation

Casa Branca Guesthouse

Tourism is still in its infancy on the Island, therefore the accomodation opportunities are limited. This might change fast in the next years. The Island is popular destination for South Africans and foreign expatriates in Mozambique. The accomodations can get scarce during the vaccation times.

The cheapest place to stay on the island is Casa de Luis (Private Gardens) in Makuti town on Traversa dos Formos. The rooms are available for aound 8 U$.

There is a choice of guesthouses, with Casa Branca (phone: 06/610076) one of the best. The house is 300 years old, situated on the eastern side of the island near the Luiz de Camoes statue. and there are only 3 bedroms with 2 beds and 2 separate bathrooms. The rates are around 20/25U$ including breakfast and the staff is very friedly. Be sure to book in advance since the place is very popular.

Himo's is another guesthouse 100 m north of Casa Branca, also on the eastern beachfront. It's got also three double rooms and charges similar rates as Casa Branca.

Oiko's guesthouse is just around the corner of the museum and governor's palace. It's got several rooms for slightly higher price the other 2 guestouses above (around 25U$).

Other options are Casa Helena in the Makuti Town (Red Hut Town) with 2 double rooms, and Conselho Municipal guesthouse in the northern part of the Island, facing the park and former sport facilites of the town.

The only hotel, Omuhi'piti (phone 06/529351) is being curently renovated and is due to open soon. It's situated on the north eastern side of the island between the old swimming pool and the fort. The rooms will have bathroom, satelite TV. The prices will range around 80/90 U$ per night.

For travelers, who don't want to sped so much money, there is also a Camp Site on the mainland next to te bridge. The rate is 4 U$ and you can buy also food and drinkks in a small shop.
